Hello My Dear Blog-Readers!
I hope you are all very well.
I'm doing great here, in Taipei.
I keep myself busy with doing touristy things and hanging out a lot with my close friends from the show.
I love them and I'm so thankful for having them on tour.
They really make my touring life happier, funnier and way more entertaining.
We can really share nice moments, and we can help each other out when we feel down.
Sometimes I fell that most of my days are just work, work and work, but being here (in Asia) helps a lot putting my attention, and taking my focus on different things.
I love it.
We can just go to walk around a bit in our neighbourhood, look at interesting buildings, or have a nice Asian meal and talk about the "big questions of life"... it all helps.
The show is pretty much the same most of the time.
It's nice on one hand.
Stabil, so you don't really have to worry about anything when you go on stage,
but on the other hand, it can get a bit boring after a while.
This city we have a little bit of craziness, because some people are leaving or already left, so understudies are replacing them.
We had a show (few days ago), when I was the only original main character, the other three was played by the understudies.
It can be cool, because it shakes up your routine, but it can be hard sometimes, because some things might change, so you always need to be focused and ready to change if it's needed.
Yesterday was the first time, when Yulya (Iulliia M.) performed her "Handbalancing on Canes" act.
She did a great job.
She is a super sweet and strong girl, with great technique.
She does a lot of single handbalancing elements, what usually guys do on canes.
Impressive!
Here I have to tell you all, that this blog is not dedicated stricktly to the "VAREKAI" show.
It's my blog, mostly about my career, things what I see on tour, things what I find interesting, people who I care for.
So please don't expect me to write everytime, when people are changing in the "VAREKAI" cast or something happens within the show.
I will only mention people who are my friends, whom I find talented or interesting, and things what I think are important.
Few of you guys asked me about the differences about being in Europe and Asia.
I liked being in Europe.
It was nice to be able to travel around, see and really get to know "my" continent.
It was great to be able to go home, to see my family regularly or have them visiting me on tour.
But I found the whole continent a bit too globalized now.
We mostly played and I mostly visited bigger cities, but still ... it really felt like one big country.
So it was nice, but enough!
Asia.
I can't really tell you much about Asia in general, because I only have been in one country so far, in Taiwan.
And I only visited few cities here.
But so far I love it!
I don't think I ever told you, that when I was small I used to be in love with Chinese and Japanese culture, and I used to collect things about them.
It slowly faded out, but I still have the interest to visit these countries and see and experience things here.
I love the politeness of people. They are very kind.
Everything is super organized and it is pretty easy to get around, because there are a lot of signs in English and people are very heplful, even if they don't speak English.
I found the architecture very inetersting, very different.
I love all the signs. They are like little pieces of art.
And it seems, that neon-signs are really "in" here, what makes me feel like Christmas or some kind of a celebration all year long.
The food is great.
The vibe of the cities are great.
Exotic and very calming.
I feel super relaxed and happy here.
So this was and this is Taipei for me, so far ...
All the best,
Mark :)
